Doctor of Social Work
Thank you for your interest in the Doctor of Social Work (DSW) program at the FAU Phyllis & Harvey Sandler School of Social Work. We are proud to be the first DSW program in the state of Florida and look forward to welcoming you here.
DSW Program Structure
Our DSW program is offered on our Boca Raton campus as a three-year cohort model with convenient late afternoon and evening courses, ideal for working professionals. All DSW students stay in lockstep with their admitted cohort for the duration of the three-year program, enabling them to thrive in a close-knit community of their peers. Kindly note that the doctoral program is not offered online.
DSW vs. Ph.D.
The DSW was once known as the precursor to the Social Work/Social Welfare Ph.D. in the 20th century. In the early 2000s, it re-emerged as a completely re-envisioned doctoral credential that is well suited for our modern age of evidence-based practice. The DSW course curriculum is intended to train scholarly clinicians for practice-oriented leadership so graduates of the program can assume positions of leadership in a myriad of roles and settings such as clinical practice, academia and administration.
Applying for Your DSW Degree
Cohorts are admitted each year in the Fall semester. The application deadline is February 1 for international students and April 1 for domestic applicants each year. All admitted DSW students will receive notice of their acceptance by June 1. View application requirements
